FAQ & DIRECTIONS

What shoes/dress should I wear?

Wear comfortable, flat shoes as you will be standing for a minimum of an hour at a time. Clothing should be comfortable and suitable to the weather, realizing that you may generate a breeze with the segway.

What if it rains?

We want everyone to have fun, but if the weather is not cooperating we do have a couple of options. If it is a light drizzle, we will generally continue with the safari and issue riders with a poncho to wear. If heavy thunderstorms or lightning is forecasted we will contact you ahead of time to delay, reschedule or even cancel the safari depending on your schedule.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

As you can appreciate we have limited spaces available on the Safaris, therefore cancellations have to be made 24 hours in advance. Any cancellations made between 24 and 2 hours prior to the scheduled Safari time will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. No shows will be charged the full fee.

What if I start the tour and do not continue?

Similar to a last minute cancellation, we only have limited availability of Segways so if you elect to discontinue the Safari for any reason you will be charged the full fee.

What if I need to change my reservation?

Reschedules will be accepted up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled Safari. Additions to party numbers is subject to availability. Reduction of party numbers is subject to our cancellation policies. No shows or non notification of reduced party numbers will be charged the full fee. For changes to your reservation please call us at 1 800 734 7393

Are there restrictions on where Segways are permitted?

Restrictions on Segway use is controlled by City Codes and State Legislation. In the majority of cases, States limit the minimum age of riders, require riders to ride on the sidewalks, classify Segways as pedestrian vehicles and limit the maximum speed for use on the sidewalks generally 10mph. In DC the National Parks Service also prohibits Segway usage on National Park property. As such Segways can not be used on the National Mall or tidal basin.

Other Considerations

Weight: Segway recommends the maximum weight of riders be restricted to 260lbs, as this will ensure the maximum battery usage. Some folks maybe a little over this weight and this will not generally affect the performance of the segway

Height: The handlebars are adjustable

Age: There is a minimum age of 16 in DC and 14 in MD, PA - mandated by local legislation. There is no maximum age, but riders need to keep in mind that they will be standing the entire time they are on the Safari.

General health: Like all outdoor activities, participants need to be aware of their own limitations and weather conditions such as extreme heat.  Please also ensure that you are hydrated, have eaten and taken any necessary medicines prior to your safari. Let your guide know if you have any medical conditions that may impair your driving of the Segway.  Unfortunately riding a segway is not recommended for women who are pregnant.

Why Segs in the City

Segs in the City is the first and most experienced operator in all our locations - we have been doing this for more than 6 years!. We have the safest track record and are renown for the care and maintenance or our equipment. We are also meticulous about personal service and limit our safari sizes to a maximum of 10 riders per guide to ensure your safety and enjoyment. We also maximize your riding time - we know that you have a lot to cram into your visit so we do not waste your Segway riding time watching videos or walking to the attractions. We also offer variety - the hotspots of DC, Colonial history in Annapolis, a battlefield tour in Gettysburg, an up close view of the National Cathedral and Embassies  and the Baltimore Inner Harbor. There is usually something to suit every taste. Best of all once, you have done a safari with us you become a licensed rider and you can then rent one of Segways and go it alone - no other tour operator offers this!

Seen a lot of talk about "authorized" tour operators - well all this means is that this company is also a Segway Dealer and will probably try and sell you a Segway while you are on your ride

Want to buy one?

We are not a dealer (although we have been one in the past) but if you just have to have one we will find you the best deal around! Including new and used models.
